Boer Maak 'n Plan - Part 3 Introduction
The Future: Three Possible Outcomes

As we explored in Part 1, our current globalised civilisation exhibits the telltale signs of a system in decline, increasingly centralised in the hands of a domineering elite class. In Part 2, we deconstructed the narratives and agendas behind ESG frameworks, Stakeholder Capitalism, and the push for supranational governance under the guise of sustainability. Standing at this precarious crossroads, the future trajectory of our species hangs in the balance.
The prescient work of psychologist Clare W. Graves offers a compelling lens to understand the pivotal choice before us. Graves outlined three possible evolutionary paths for humanity: Termination, Technofeudalism, or Transcendence. Each scenario represents a radically different outcome for the human story.
In Chapter 7, we will unpack these three potentialities, tracing how the historical patterns illuminated in Part 1 could culminate in vastly divergent realities. We will examine the characteristics of "Second Tier" consciousness—the holistic, integral worldview Graves saw as key to realising our transcendent potential. And we will explore how the South African spirit of making a plan embodies the collaborative adaptability needed to navigate this time of transition.
Chapter 8 takes a piercing look behind the altruistic rhetoric of Stakeholder Capitalism, revealing how initiatives like ESG and the UN SDGs represent a sophisticated "bait and switch" to usher in an era of Technofeudalism. Through case studies like the GREEN+ program, we will see how the language of sustainability is being weaponised to expropriate resources, erode national sovereignty, and consolidate power in the hands of an unelected corporatocracy—with dire implications for individual liberty and democratic governance.
Yet all is not lost. In Chapter 9, we outline a bold pathway for transcending the false choice between termination and totalitarianism through an audacious model of bioregional resilience. This approach calls for unprecedented partnerships between visionary corporations and rural wisdom-holders to regenerate the ecological and social health of entire landscapes. By incubating these collaborations at the frontiers, South Africa's business leaders can pioneer a new regenerative operating system for the planet—and light the way for a world thirsty for wiser pathways.
Woven throughout this section is a recognition of our unique positioning as South African executives to be midwives of this birthing. Unshackled from the inertia of the old, we can embrace our destiny as catalysts of a more sane, humane and generative world. The indomitable spirit of making a plan that carried us through a history of adversity now calls us to lead humanity through an evolutionary Momentous Leap.
The question is whether we will rise to the summons of our time. Will we have the courage to reject the well-worn paths of Termination and Technofeudalism and blaze an intrepid trail into Terra Nova—the uncharted landscape of true corporate citizenship in service to all Life? Part 3 is an invitation to this quest.
